When I launched Cristian’s Commonplace a year ago, I didn’t know what would happen. All I knew was that I had wanted to be a writer for a very long time, and how I put off taking any meaningful steps toward that kind of life for almost as long. I also wasn’t getting any younger. Time was going to pass me by whether I pursued my passions or not. It was time to start walking the walk and do the damn thing.
Was I nervous about it all? Absolutely.
Did my Inner Critic protest, saying I didn’t have anything meaningful to share? Yup.
But has it all been worth it? A million percent.
I may not be there, wherever “there” is, but I know I’m on my way. There are still so many questions and possibilities of outcomes in the back of my mind, but all that I control is my taking the next step. And it’s been so wonderful that you, dear readers, have joined me for the journey.
Throughout the past year, this newsletter has grown from just documenting my writer’s journey through essays and musings to something more. Because I truly believe that everyone needs to have a splash of art and creativity in their life, so I’m also now using this space to help encourage that. And I’ve seen that there is definitely a demand for that kind of creativity-focused writing, as recent newsletter subscribers have come in from outside the circles of people I know. It’s all so encouraging.
So, friends, thank you! I appreciate the kind words after every entry. The fact that something I’ve written and published has helped so many of you think differently about art and community and our precious humanity, well, it’s so touching.
Here’s the best part: This is only the beginning. Cheers to so many more years!
